Jacob Barnard's Definition of Music

I find it very hard to define music.

Music is many things to me. Its message can be soothing, encouraging, honoring, sorrowful, sympathetic... and the list goes on. I find that when I can't express something in words, music is the language of choice to get the meaning across.

Technically speaking, music is an organization of sounds patterned over time, comprised of exact frequencies which complement each other when strung together melodically or harmonically. Music can have vivid timbres, a wide number of voices, much or little amplitude/frequency masking, small to large dynamic range, and again, the list goes on.
